There is only one moment to appreciate in life and that is the present moment.
Often in our life, we focus our awareness into our regretful past and uncertain future. We know that the future is a dream not yet alive and the past is memory without a pulse. But, why are our minds often somewhere else? How can we stay fully present when we want to? Do you know that being fully present can make our experiences more positive and memorable?
Sometimes, we even try to divide our attention, to do 2-3 things in the same time, however when we divide our attention we cheapen our experience of life. And sometimes we're not even aware we're doing it. As for me, it’s a norm to do 2-3 tasks in one shot, talking to the phone while replying an urgent email and sometimes I have offended the person I’m talking to because I’m not focused.
When walking outdoor, we often focus on the near and familiar, and never notice the distant beauty of a hawk wheeling right above us. In our daily life, we always dramatize our problem without appreciating what we have in present. We often blame God for all the problems happened in our life but seldom appreciated every breath that we inhale is given by our almighty God. And these are relatively harmless examples. Sometimes it hurts much more.
Whatever the moment, you're in it. Appreciating the moment begins with appreciating yourself. And appreciating yourself begins with your own breathing.
